New Day on Earth
NEW DAY ON EARTH
(8 Parts to a Sustainable Future)
This eight-paneled piece represents eight puzzle pieces that could come together for a sustainable future on Earth.
Panel 1 (top left) : This panel represents natural climate solutions (NCS). These natural climate solutions actively draw CO2 out of the atmosphere and place it back into the soil where it belongs. These simple solutions can balance out human CO2 emissions, in essence reversing a human-caused climate crisis. Depicted here are a few NCS including forest protection, bamboo production, wetland protection, grassland protection, peatland protection, bicycle infrastructure, alternative cement, electric trains, wind turbines/clean energy. These solutions not only make the Earth more beautiful and bio-diverse, but also actively draw Co2 out of the atmosphere.
Panel 2 (top left middle): This panel represents clean energy sources. Depicted here are solar panels and wind turbines. At the bottom of this panel, a human âsmart dwellingâ running on clean energy is portrayed, as well as clean public transportation in the form of the âsmart trainâ running at the left of the panel.
Panel 3 (top right middle) : This panel represents universal morality: Agreed-upon tenets to which all humans on the planet can agree. Without a shared moral compass, it will be hard to build a sustainable future. Depicted here is a classic temple that also resembles a government building behind a large blazing fire. This represents the eternal flame of a higher law governing us in peace and harmony as a planet.
Panel 4 (top right): This panel depicts a âfood forestâ and represents all the ways that human food production can be conducted in a sustainable way. This panel represents the important role that regenerative agriculture, food forestry, reducing food waste, and a plant rich diet can contribute to a radiantly healthy and sustainable future for all. In these ways, humans and plants can work together to feed the people of the world in a way that is in harmony with nature.
Panel 5 (bottom Left) : This panel represents clean water systems. Abundant, clean water is one of the most important features of the planet we call home. It is of crucial importance that we maintain clean water in our lakes, rivers, and oceans, as well as sustainable clean water access for all humans and animals. This is in order to ensure the basic health of the planet and everything on it, as water is the juice of life.
Panel 6 (bottom left middle): This panel depicts technology helping humans. The small robot labeled "iHelp" is helping the child pick raspberries. This shows how technology can help humans while also working in harmony with nature. In the background, a human "smart city" is visualized. In this small human community, people are dwelling in sustainable structures with their own fresh water source and growing their own food.
Panel 7 (bottom right middle) : This panel represents unity in diversity. Our differences make us stronger as a community. This panel represents the bridge that is formed when opposites come together in harmony--whether that be opposing genders, opposing races, opposing religions, opposing ideologies, opposing cultures--in order to come together in balance and mutual respect.
Panel 8 (bottom right): The final panel represents self-actualization. The ultimate civilization on this planet would allow each to achieve self-actualization. In the background, a "self-reflection pool" represents the need to know one's own reflection in order to evolve. The individual is shown moving onward and upward following the path of their passion. The small "iHelp" robot in the bottom left is assisting with this positive personal blossoming. This represents how humans could be able to follow their passion with the assistance of technology doing the jobs that they are not passionate about.
